Marius Oberholster Hey! I'm having an incredible learning experience, not only learning how Blender works (yes, still learning), but also about Open-Source and the incredible software available. Stick around!

Abstract backgrounds and aliases

Hey all!

Last week, Andrew Price, released a new tutorial on creating abstract backgrounds. I followed this tutorial for Cycles, but in Blender Render and I think it's great that there has been one done on this, because there is such a vast use for such backgrounds, especially if you can think outside the box on these sorts of things. Here's mine:

(Didn't finish the tutorial to see his, because most of it was done in Photoshop and
Cycles has better DOF than Blender Render has, but I like this result)

But I really want to emphasize, that while this is one that focuses on the abstract, you can also make super-real ones as well. For example, curtains blowing by a door, a water feature, a fountain, people walking by a store window, a water fall, ocean surface, snow falling, the lines on a tar road, etc. The possibilities are very wide and though not always super original in this category, you can certainly put a spin on the subject matter by for example using a dust storm instead of time-lapse clouds, or using a car's wheel-spin in slow motion instead of just traffic, etc. You can really go far and beyond the ordinary and look at different elements individually. The most important aspect is repetition and/or length.

When you are making a video like this, it is definitely advised that it be something that loops. If it doesn't, it will not work for indefinite backgrounds on DVD menus or stage backdrops, etc. If you have set times, then absolutely, make it only for that purpose, like a shortened day for a stage production, but making things that can loop will greatly benefit your customers.

On a higher note, I found this teaching quite insightful and I hope it blesses you too!

Thank you to all the new people on Facebook! I welcome you and I hope you learn a lot from this site! Also, a big thanx to those who regularly visit and read, may it continue! :D

Thank YOU!!!!!!!!!
