Marius Oberholster Hey! I'm having an incredible learning experience, not only learning how Blender works (yes, still learning), but also about Open-Source and the incredible software available. Stick around!

Adding some cracks

Heya everybody!

Been working on the tutorial and, oh snap, is it taking a while, hahaha. Personally, I've learned a ton during the writing of the book and people's reaction to it when I show them what it's about and what they would be able to do with it is really a confirmation that this is truly an anointed (means favored and chosen by GOD) project. Thank you for all the support!

Today's work followed on the tip from yesterday, which is grouping everything into node groups making the whole setup a whole lot cleaner and today was a big day as I added the cracks to the bricks and started with the displacement!
This is what it looks like (I altered the lighting to enhance the displacement; just makes it pop more):

While this is nowhere near finished, it does look cool (especially on the arch itself). The broken-off pieces still need a proper material, but for now they are just a diffuse white.

Over the bricks there will still come plenty of work and other bits and pieces to add some age and so on and so forth. It takes a lot of wear and tear to reclaim a space and that's exactly what needs to happen here. Layer upon layer of oldness if you will, hahaha.

Just a note: Be aware that when you add displacement, Cycles really does get a lot slower, so while you don't need it on, leave it off to be connected later.

Have a great one!

Thank YOU!!!!!!!
