Marius Oberholster Hey! I'm having an incredible learning experience, not only learning how Blender works (yes, still learning), but also about Open-Source and the incredible software available. Stick around!

Anime style dust cloud

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 Under: Tutorials
Hey all!

In some anime shows, there is a dust cloud that follows some explosions that looks a lot like this. I've wanted to do it for a while, but only got the release to give it a shot last night, after downloading Animation Nodes. I don't know 100% how Animation Nodes work, but I have to say, that it does take some getting used to and there is definitely a need for tutorials, hahaha. Having said that, you don't need animation nodes for this tutorial, though they do make things a lot easier!

So, without further delay, here is the tutorial on how to make this type of explosion cloud!

PRAISE GOD for this result!

GOD is so awesome!! These days, it seems, almost as soon as HE gives me revelation on how to do something, HE has me do a video on it, hahaha.

This one came about a different way. For a while, I had been exploring the issue of smoke and clouds (just look at my videos) and this was a step above. I saw a video by Wasili Novratidis just over a week ago, and as I watched it, GOD gave me the download on how to tackle this problem and, as usual, it worked!

Back then, I wanted to do it using this method on the GuruBlog, by Nikolaus Gradwohl. While it is an extremely cool method, I honestly could not remember how to stick it together and GOD did not allow me to find the above link until writing this, BUT! HE did give me a solution - Animation Nodes.

Animation Nodes is a free add-on for Blender, that allows you a lot of flexibility that you will not be able to gain without scripting knowledge - the author even states that it is a visual scripting tool. You can find the add-on here on BlenderArtists, or if the post gets archived, directly from Jacques Lucke on GitHub.
Like I said in the video, you only click on Download Zip, go into Blender > User Preferences > Add-ons > Install From File and then select the zip to install from and tick the box to enable it. Extremely simple and very quick to do and always at your own risk, as all recommendations are.

Long story short, the video in the beginning of the post was the first good result. It has some short comings, but because you as the user would now have the building blocks you need, you can take it further - which is what the tutorial is - giving you the tools to go get the result you want.

Biggest thanx to GOD for helping me with this. Without HIM, none of this would be possible! :D

Know JESUS yet?
