Comic Style in Blender

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Thursday, June 11, 2015 Under: Tutorials
Hey all!!

Time for another video tutorial!! I'm really enjoying making these and I'm glad to see that you guys still enjoy watching them. The Make Human to Anime one is almost at a 1000 views! GOD is awesome!! Thank you for watching!

Today, we cover something a little different, comic shading! Oh yes! I don't know about you guys, but I really like the look that some comics have. Some have really smooth shading while others have a more flat approach. May have something to do with budget and time constraints too, but they've always looked cool. I got the idea for this tutorial from another great tutorial maker called Alimayo Arango; remember I talked about his spin on my anime tutorial in a previous post. You can check out his graphic novel tutorial on his channel. Credit where it is due! haha.
Also, a huge hey to all those who make comics out there. The style is truly inspiring!!

GOD helped me come up with a unique look and approach, so I hope this helps you if you want to make your own story into a comic or whatever. To watch it, you can simply click the image below:

(Opens the video in a new tab or window, depending on your browser)

For those of you who want a bit more info in writing about the tutorial techniques, you can download the Tutorial Reference:
(Opens in a new tab for the download. If the PDF opens, simply download or save it)

Just to give you all another example of what this technique can be used for, today was my dad's birthday and we had to make him a card. Of course, knowing blender, GOD gave me that assignment for the most part, which I really didn't mind, though I was slightly antsy about getting it done on time, and finishing the tutorial. Anyway, I really felt lead to go with a sea theme and this image was the result of that:

This is not the technique in it's raw form in the tutorial, but a modification of the same methods, just applied to different areas, including the shadows. Most of what you see here, is proper lighting and texturing. The texture of the image is the compositing. I am happy to say that all were happy with the card :D.
In case you were wondering, this is the ocean modifier.

Again, thank you to everyone who commented, viewed, shared, subscribed, etc. I really appreciate that! GOD bless you!!

Do you know JESUS yet?

Thank YOU!!!!!
