Covet

Hey all!!

This was the coolest thing! I was busy brushing my teeth or something when GOD showed me what it means to covet. I haven't understood this term since I was little and it has always bugged me. For many reasons, but mostly because as I understood it, it meant that you're not allowed to want anything anybody else has for any reason - which was simply not practical when I thought about it as well. For example, let's say you don't have food and others do, you would be in sin if you wanted food, hahaha.

Thankfully, that is not what it means. When someone covets something, it is a desire beyond what I just described. Usually it starts off with just liking it, but if it is covetousness it will quickly grow into an immoderate desire that will drive you to act like a person not in their right mind...

Let me give you an illustration for the Word first and then I'll show you what it translate as into real life:
"From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble." James 4:1-6, KJV

I want you to know here that lust as a word can be applied to things as well, not just people. You can lust after things as well and again, it comes to exceeding desire, not just: "ooh! That's cool! Where did you get it?"

Now, practical example: Let's say you have a really great PC and I have been stuck with a bottom of the range laptop for a decade and is just not doing it. So, instead of being happy for you, like I should be, I start to envy you and feel bad about the gift I have, because I took the devil's bait instead of following GOD's leading.
So now, I start to think about your PC all the time and how much I could accomplish for GOD if I had your PC and I start imagining how cool it would be to have full time access to such computing power. Now I start going into works of the flesh to try and get a new PC exactly like yours, not even considering if it's the right configuration or not, because remember, a person that covets does not care about the truth, they want what you have. Then the bank sends a brand new card in the mail and now I think I have gotten provision for my desire for that new PC, that is exactly like yours.
Usually in situations like this, GOD will frustrate and block your plans from getting you what you want, when you're trying to exclude HIM when you know you really can't do it without HIM.
Out of that frustration now, comes resentment towards you for that PC you have and I start becoming bitter and little by little that thing shows it's ugly head and I become mean and nasty, just like James says.
Now, a friendship, that was so precious in GOD's sight, is getting trampled on and all because I wanted something and I didn't ask GOD and I tried to justify myself in wrong doing, simply because I took the devil's bait instead of renewing my mind like I should, walking in love and really being happy for you.

That resentment breeding desire is what it means to covet, because it is a desire that drives you to actions you would not take if you were being rational and lead by the HOLY SPIRIT and not following your feelings.

When GOD showed me this, HE showed it through a different example and when HE did, I was amazed, because I had never really gotten it... Never. Not even remotely. Now having gotten it, I'm so happy to share this with you, because some of you, like me, never really knew what it meant.

Ask GOD to remove any and all immoderate desires in you that will be destroyers in your life. HE will and HE wants to! :D

Have a great one and GOD bless you!!
