Marius Oberholster Hey! I'm having an incredible learning experience, not only learning how Blender works (yes, still learning), but also about Open-Source and the incredible software available. Stick around!

Cycles can displace complex texture setups!!!

Hey all!

Today I felt that the Cycles section just fell short ito features and length (that it would depend on the tutorials to fill it out), but I went looking and HE helped me find a bit of a surprise that you may not know about.

Before today I thought that Cycles could only use the displacement modifier to create bumps and other stuff on the surface when using procedural textures to define those bumps and dents. While that does work, it only supports a single texture at a time and not a whole node setup.

So, you need a setup like you have in Blender Render, referred to there as influence. That influence is located in one of the last places anyone would think to look (and not in the way it sounds, it is just in an uncommon location, but when you find it, you'll know why it's there). This feature will be covered in the book, as it very much seems to affect the texture's size, but I will tell you this as a riddle:
You can set up a complicated displacement output and this feature will output it. Where will the result be? There you will find the answer.

And here is a little test application with it, using the cube from this week:

Enjoy the rest of the week and thank you for reading these posts. I really enjoy seeing your visits to the site. Thank you for your support!

Thank YOU!!!!!!
