Marius Oberholster Hey! I'm having an incredible learning experience, not only learning how Blender works (yes, still learning), but also about Open-Source and the incredible software available. Stick around!

Faster testing when compositing

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 Under: Tips
Hey all!

GOD challenged me to try something today and I'm glad I listened. Basically, HE challenged me to use OpenEXR to export a clean animation to, to work on compositing afterward. Let me explain why.

OpenEXR is a format released by Industrial Light and Magic a while ago (source). It is by no means a format I would recommend you export to on a regular basis, simply because I don't believe that was why it was made. I believe, because it was made as a High Dynamic Range format, it was, at least back then, more geared to production than release. In Blender's case, it is extremely helpful, because it can export your render passes in a single file.

Why would that help you with faster testing?
Simple - you now have access to every frame, pre-rendered and you can composite as if you've only rendered a single frame, giving you access to pass through the animation and see where errors might occur.
When you are testing certain compositing features or functions, such as DOF for special application, this will enable you to go through the whole animation and even animate the DOF effect more effectively.

In order to render use this, you simply import the OpenEXR files as an image sequence in the compositor and you follow this video tutorial to be able to render it out as a final sequence. Then you can take it to video.

And that's it for today's post! I hope you all have an awesome day filled with GOD's best.

If you don't know JESUS yet, you are missing out big time, especially around this time of year when we celebrate the fact that HE came to save us from ourselves!
Watch this!

Thank YOU!!!!!!
