About Me

Marius Oberholster Hey! I'm having an incredible learning experience, not only learning how Blender works (yes, still learning), but also about Open-Source and the incredible software available. Stick around!

Nasa is being very generous

Hey all!

Today I would like to share a little something I got from one person that got it from another person, that apparently found it on NASA's website. What is this thing? Free 3D models of various spacey stuff!

Obviously, I just really wanted to give this a go and I believe GOD gave me a quick chance to try it and this was the result (after HE had me fix the textures, but more on that later):

Obviously, I
'm no expert on these things and have never seen their bases, but I do know that everything needs a solid foundation, especially in woodsy areas, like where you usually see these. So I added an extra large foundation and used it as a texturing exercise and I really like the result. From how I remember concrete, this is fairly close, imo, lol.

Anyway, you can check out NASA's website (and their usage guidelines) for more of these absolutely stunning models!

I will mention though that while these do come packaged with the textures, they may not display as the image you see on the website, so be prepared to convert for compatibility; I did with this one, because all I got were the AO maps that rendered. It's really all that rendered. If it all rendered right the first time, then it would've been amazing. The raw render, looks like this, because they saved some of the textures as *.PSD:

(see the bottom has nothing on it)

Once you have converted the textures with something like the Gimp and replaced them in the project, your raw render looks a lot better!:

Much better!

Keep in mind that these are common issues when you use 3rd party models. Thankfully, these still work in Blender and as you can see from the first image, they can really make a great center piece!

Hope you all enjoyed this one!! Huge thank you to Nasa! Thanks for making these and making them freely available!

Thank YOU!!!!!!
