About Me

Marius Oberholster Hey! I'm having an incredible learning experience, not only learning how Blender works (yes, still learning), but also about Open-Source and the incredible software available. Stick around!

Texture node section started!

Heya everyone!!

I have started working on the Texture Nodes for Procedural Textures (quite a mouth full, lol). Anyway, just to show you what you can do, I made something that you can't do without using texture nodes (when using procedural textures). An old dingy wall with plaster and paint chipping off and the wall itself is cracked.

This is it:

Usually I would use normal for this, but since the normal setting didn't give me the depth I needed, I had to go for an alternate approach: actual displacement. Though this is a very high-poly plane, the result is very very worth it and I know there is a way to export this wall as a normal map (just need to find out how, lol). The specularity (where the light shining on it is at it's sharpest; aka the white dots on the bricks) definitely needs adjusting, but I am very happy with the end result.

As this is in the book, I also wanted to show you what the node system for this looks like:

(looks worse than it is)

The node system isn't the only texture set that makes up the wall. The dirt and grime I added with other procedural textures directly applied.

But as a bonus for today, I made an HD render of the wall and turned it into a desktop background. So for those who want their screens to resemble a wall on it's way out, here you go:

(just right click and save as, it should download at full-res).

If you want to know how to make this, order the book when it's finished (^^,), I know you'll get a lot out of it!!

Have a great day everyone!
Thank YOU sooooo much for helping me and teaching me. YOU rock!!!
