About Me

Marius Oberholster Hey! I'm having an incredible learning experience, not only learning how Blender works (yes, still learning), but also about Open-Source and the incredible software available. Stick around!

Yay, it's up

Hey all!

The last post I did was on the other blog - about cast approx in the material options. Check it out!

Today I want to share with you something of an experiment for me - writing sound effects as well as music!
This is a fairly recent video I did for Cross Allegiance:

(Check out the rest of our videos on our YouTube channel - Editing done by Sterling C Franklin)

I was going for a spacy look with this one, because this is an abstract concept that translates into the natural. Basically, it comes down to sowing and reaping. If you do good, GOD will do good to you, but your heart has to have the right motive. Otherwise, it is like the pharisees who prayed to be seen. JESUS said that because they did that, they already received their reward in full, because that is why they did it.
Always double check your motives for doing things. If they aren't directed at GOD in the right way, there is a problem.

Technical info:
- Writing music is hard. Writing sound effects are just as difficult for me. Especially writing them to fit something. In this case, I had been playing around with the sea-shore sound that microsoft's MIDI instruments has built in and it worked a treat! I liked playing with it and the results speak for themselves. I totally recommend trying to write your own sound effects.
The second sound effect that needed writing was the chimes sound for the text. That was difficult! I have never played with chimes before and quite frankly, didn't really have a clue on how to write them down, but GOD showed me how to do it and I am very pleased with the result. I would like to write a post on how to do both of these and give you guys tips, but I'm waiting on GOD on this one.
- For the water, I followed the fountain tutorial I did a while back. Basically, you unwrap it first and then you twist and shape it, so that the texture can flow with the shape and not struggle to clean up the unwrap or whatever else. It works a lot easier than trying to unwrap from scratch. It's also procedural.
- Lastly, this one took a lot of compositing. Initially, I believe I added stars and wanted some freestyle stuff in there too, but none of that worked out - as in nothing. Only this fuzzy black blurred type edge worked on the cubes and some glare effects on the water. Overall, I really really really liked the image.

Oh, before I forget. The text was added almost as a second layer. Moving text to another layer, can really help you isolate what it is that you need to do with it. In my case, it was giving it some form of drop-shadow so it would be legible. Haha.

Everything turned out so well on this and I can only thank GOD for this!! Thank YOU!!! Obviously, I would also like to give Sterling a shout out for all his effort :D!

Check out our latest webcasts hosted by Sterling! You can find them on our YouTube channel and you can also watch Live on Tuesdays.

Have a great one!!!
Thank YOU again!!!!!!
